History of Big Sky Farms

Big Sky Farms was established in 1995 by four local businessmen and was one of the pioneers of the multi-site production model now in use throughout North America. Between 1995 and 1999, Big Sky designed and built three 3000 sow multi-site production units. In 2000, Big Sky set another first with the development of Canada’s first 6000 sow multi-site production unit in Ogema, Saskatchewan.
Over the next several years production capacity was increased through new construction and in the fall of 2005, Big Sky Farms purchased 16 farrow to finish barns adding 12,000 sows to its production base. Today, Big Sky Farms is one of the largest hog producers in Canada with over 42,000 sows in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
In 2010 the company created 10 new independent operating entities based on the strategic production loops it had developed over the years.
To support its production base Big Sky has integrated Feed, Transportation, Purchasing, Maintenance, Veterinary, Marketing and Support services.
Producing over 850,000 market hogs in Canada and the United States annually, Big Sky has built a reputation as a leader in the industry and continues that tradition today with its vision of;
“To Lead, Create and Innovate”
